The Spirituality of the Catechists in Indonesia

Abstract

The article titled “The Spirituality of the Catechists in Indonesia” is a scholarly work on the theme spirituality and its importance the catechists in the context of Indonesia. The author begins the article stating the importance of catechists as evangelisers in the Church. Then, he exposes the importance of spiritual life in their lives. “The need for a spirituality proper to catechists springs from their vocation and mission”, the author asserts, quoting the Church Document. After these preliminary presentations, the author explains the meaning the term “spirituality”. Then, he explains the important characteristics of the spirituality of the catechists as the following: Christ-cantered, Eucharist-centred, Word of God-centred, authenticity of life, Marian spirituality, missionary zeal and finally situational spirituality. The author concludes his presentation with the important of the formation of the catechists which naturally involves spiritual formation.
